Advanced Medical Textiles
Make the Care Environment Safer
Chitozan Health’s patented silver chitosan Silver Shell formulas have been proven to provide outstanding eradication of harmful bacteria, fungus, and viruses limiting cross-adaptation.
The Advanced Silver Shell technology demonstrates remarkable antimicrobial efficacy and safety, setting a new standard for textile protection. The finishes also inhibit development of bacterial resistance via a multi-stage multi-modal attack on cell biological processes.
Advanced Silver Shell silver chitosan was improved with funding from a NIH NIAID grant award. This advanced formula contains significantly less silver than other silver antimicrobial finishes currently on the market. Electron microscopy (TEM) has shown that silver chloride chitosan particles are of a microparticle size larger than 100nm.
Silver Shell finish has passed the EPA 6-pack of tests. It was shown to pose no inhalation, ocular, oral, or dermal risk. Silver Shell may pass as an EPA Category IV, minimal risk.
Treated textiles have withstood 75 commercial and home washes without a loss of efficacy. Treated textiles remain soft and supple to touch.
Over 50 efficacy tests on finished textiles have proven that our Advanced Silver Shell textile finish achieves a sustained kill of bacteria of 99.999% ( 5 log 10) or better. Independent laboratory testing at GMP and ISO registered facilities show effectiveness against a broad spectrum of harmful strains of bacteria and fungus. These include strains of greatest concern to health organizations: C-diff, E-coli, K. pneumonia, A. baumannii, Candida auris and Candida albicans, SARS CoV-2, Covid 19, MRSA, VRSA, VRE, ciprofloxacin resistant S. aureus, Gentamicin resistant P. aeruginosa, Salmonella, E. coli, and more.
Advanced Silver Shell prohibited any growth of fungus on the surface of a synthetic material. In independent lab at Situ Biosciences, using the ASTM G-21 Standard Practice for Determining Resistance of Synthetic Polymeric Materials, no fungus was observed after 72 hours.
Silver leaching is negligible. In wash studies silver was barely detectable in wash water. In Zone of Inhibition studies, a 0 Zone of Inhibition was observed. Both tests validate that leaching is greatly minimized.
Silver Shell utilizes chitosan’s biostatic property to attract pathogens to its amine receptors where they adhere due to the muccoadhesive property of chitosan and adjacent to micro-particle silver. When this occurs a rapid disintegration of the exterior cell wall occurs, disruption of cell function rapidly takes place rendering the pathogen harmless.
Chitozan Health’s patented Silver Shell silver chitosan formulas provide effective antimicrobial protection against bacteria, fungus, and viruses with minimal cross-adaptation. Advanced Silver Shell, enhanced via NIH NIAID funding, uses less silver than typical finishes, employs >100nm silver chloride chitosan particles, and meets EPA safety standards with negligible risk and silver leaching. Treated textiles maintain softness after 75 washes and retain over 99.999% bacterial reduction, as confirmed by independent lab tests (GMP/ISO) against major pathogens such as C-diff, MRSA, SARS CoV-2, and others. The finish prevents fungal growth, minimizes silver in wash water, and relies on chitosan’s biostatic properties to attract and destroy pathogens quickly.

Patented Silver Shell Silver Chitosan Technology
Chitozan Health’s patented silver chitosan (glucosamine) formulas have been proven to provide outstanding antimicrobial effectiveness and inhibit development of bacterial resistance.
Our advanced formula of silver chitosan was developed using our NIH NIAID grant award. This new formula contains 32 times less silver than currently marketed silver antimicrobial finishes.
Electron microscopy (TEM) has shown that silver particles are above 100nm.
The silver Shell antimicrobial textile finish has been shown to pose no inhalation, ocular, oral, or dermal risk and passes tests that qualify for an EPA Category IV, minimal risk designation.
Over 70 efficacy tests of finished textiles have proven that our Advanced Silver Shell textile finish achieves a sustained kill of as much as 99.9999%.
